The Mid-Louisiana Area of Interest is generally located to the northwest by Bunkie and northeast by Angola and to the southwest by Milton and southeast by Loreauville.
The maps listed below provide an overview of the area in terms of its its drainage, ecology, surface soil types, streams, political divisions, and place names.
These maps were created as part of a university senior level class, Anthropology 465 Heritage and Habitat (Fall, 2017) taught by Charles Ray Brassier, PhD. at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The class uses various methodologies to understand La Prairie Basse (The Low Prairie) where the first Acadians settled in the mid-18th Century. These methodologies include cultural geography, ecological geography, ethnobotany, culture history, social history, toponymy, and ethnography using participant observer, interviewing, and photography. The intent is to use these maps with these various methodologies.
Coverage:
The drainage area between the Vermilion and Teche Bayous being a rectangular area starting in Bunkie, then east to Angola, then South to Loreauville; then West to Kaplan; and then North to Bunkie.
