-1.2- QGIS Mac Version

If a student wants to run QGIS on a Mac, I recommend that install bootcamp and install Windows ($60 to $150) so as to allow the student run the Windows version. Another option, but less expensive, is to install Parallels ($80) which allows you to run both Windows and Mac OS X at the same time. The double boot is unlike bootcamp were the computer is in either OS X or Windows at one time. Windows was (and may not now) be given as a free piece of software with Parallels. However, the system is less secure because Windows is in administration mode without a password. The setup is safe as long as the user does not cruise risky sites on the the internet or download free and risky programs. The configuration of Parallels is no simple matter, which the instructor has performed on his computer. The instructor will provide general support for Parallels and Bootcamp; but he does not guarantee resolution of issues.

1.3 QGIS Linux Version

The Unbuntu Linux is a free operating system with a free version of QGIS. If a student is an experienced user, then the student may decide to use the free option; but the instructor does not support the installation and use of QGIS.
